Indian Mission official rushing to Virginia
New Delhi, Apr 17: A senior official of the Indian Mission in Washington is rushing to Virginia to meet the Indian students there following reports that an Indian Professor at the Virginia university was among the 33 people killed in a shooting spree yesterday, a senior official of the EXternal Affairs Ministry said here today.
Thirty three people were killed in two attacks at Virginia Tech yesterday.
An Indian, G V Loganathan, 51, a lecturer at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, was reportedly killed in the shooting.
However, there was no official confirmation of the death of the Indian-born Professor, a senior official of the External Affairs Ministry said.
The official said Counsellor Officer at the Indian Mission in Washington had been asked to rush to Virginia to get the details.
He said the External Affairs Ministry was in constant touch with the Indian Mission which, in turn, was in contact with the Indian Students' Association in Virginia.
''We are trying to get all the facts,'' the official added.
