Father-in-law booked on charges of rape

Hoshiarpur, Apr 17 (UNI) Police have booked a man and his wife on the complaint of their daughter-in-law who accused her father-in-law of raping her and along with his wife, harassing her for dowry.

Tanda Police has booked Harjinder Singh and his wife Kulvir Kaur of village Ganipur Badhana of this district under sections 376, 498 A and 120 B of the IPC last night.

According to the police sources, Ranjit Kaur of village Baghiari has alleged in her complaint that soon after her husband Manvir Singh returned to the army after their marriage on October 1, 2006, her father-in-law Harjinder Singh and mother-in-law Kulwinder Kaur started torturing her for more dowry.

She further alleged that on April 14, when her mother-in-law had gone away to visit some relatives, Harjinder took advantage of the situation and allegedly raped her.

Later, her cousin brother Sarabjit Singh, who happened to visit her soon after, took her away after coming to know of her plight, the victim claimed.
