Employment to children of riot victims under consideration

New Delhi, Apr 17 (UNI) A scheme to give preference to children of victims of 1984 riots for employment within the departments of the various state Government is under consideration by the Delhi government.

However, as far as recruitment of the children and family members of the riot victims in the IR battalions and state police forces, the ame is completely under the purview of the Union Government, a Delhi Government spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said the Delhi Government is actively promoting the cause of the 1984 riots victims to give them their dues under the Prime Minister's "rehabilitation package".

The Delhi Government has incurred a total expenditure of Rs 116,40 crore towards the payments made for enhanced ex gratia in death, injury and cases of compensation for uninsured property.

Enhanced compensation for death at Rs 3.5 lakh per case has been paid in 95 per cent cases and in the injury case at Rs 1.25 lakh per case has been paid in 87 per cent cases.

Efforts are also being made to finalise the remaining disputed or unresolved cases at the earliest, the spokesperson said.
