New Delhi, Apr 17: A city court today issued a fresh production warrant for May 22 against underworld don Abu Salem in an extortion and criminal intimidation case registered in 2002.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Seema Maini issued the order after he could not be produced in the court even when the TADA court in Mumbai, hearing the 1993 serial bomb blast case, permitted Salem to be brought to the national capital.

The CMM was informed that Salem could not be brought to Delhi in time for today's hearing after the Mumbai court gave permission.

The judge directed that the fresh production warrant should be send to Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail Superintendent for compliance.

Many such production warrants had been issued by the court in the past but they had been ignored on some grounds or the other.

The CMM also sought production of three other accused in the case, who were currently lodged in a Bhopal Jail.

Special Cell of the Delhi Police had sought Salem's custody in the case in which his associates, allegedly at Salem's behest, demanded Rs one crore from the owner of a South Delhi-based private firm in 2002 and threatened him with dire consequences if the amount was not paid.

Salem is also wanted in many similar cases in the capital.
