CRPF jawans assaulted tribals,CPI(M) demands inquiry

Rourkela, Apr 17 (UNI) Thousands of CPI(M) activists today intensified their rasta roko agitation at various places in Sundargarh district, protesting the assault on several tribal women by the CRPF jawans.

Party state secretary member Bishnu Mohanty demanded strong action against the CRPF jawans for assaulting tribals women at Kolta,Toda and Roxi during a road blockade agitation.

Mr Mohanty said while the tribals were resorting to rasta roko agitation protesting the bad conditions of roads in the district, the CRPF jawans arrived at the spot last night and started assaulting the agitators, including the women.

He said at least 35 tribal women were injured in the incident.

Following the incident, party activists blocked the road at Kolta, Roxi, Kebalangpur, Koda and Bimlagarh, forcing the movement of the vehicular traffic to a grinding halt at many places.

Sources said nearly ten thousand vehicles were stranded off the road as the CPI(M) activists blocked the roads at various points.

Senior district officials had rushed to the trouble spots to pacify the agitatedparty activists.

Mr Mohanty condemning the action of the CRPF jawans demanded that those involved in the incident should be immediately suspended from the job.
