Centre talks to people through PIC

Aizawl, Apr 17(UNI) The Press Information Bureau(PIB) in Aizawl is currently conducting Public Information Campaign(PIC) in Mizoram to highlight various development programmes of the Centre.

The UPA government, as part of its 'National Common Minimum Programmes'(CMP), has focused on the core flagships, which are being implemented in various states.

As per a decision taken by the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, six Flagship Programmes of the Government of India - Bharat Nirman, National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, National Rural Health Mission, Sarva Shiksa Abhiyan with universalised Mid-day meal scheme programme, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and the Right to Information Act have been identified as core issues for the Public Information Campaign.

The Government of India has designated Press Information Bureau (PIB) as the nodal agency for the campaign.

In Mizoram, the PIB is working with the Mizoram Intermedia Publicity Coordination Committee (MIPCC), Mizoram Journalists' Association(MJA) and District Coordination Committtee.

The Public Information Campaign has successfully organised the campaign in three districts of Mizoram-- Aizawl, Lawngtlai and Saiha, with a focus on the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act(NREGA).

Efforts are being made to cover all the other districts of Mizoram. During the campaign Government officials gave detailed reports and proceedings of the various Centrally Sponsored Schemes, which are being implemented by the Mizoram government.

Senior media and communication officer, PIB, Aizawl, Mangjangam Touthang said, ''The achievement of the campaign is so far remarkable. People have been cooperative. Plans are on to cover the entire state in the near future.'' The PIC is a platform through which the Centre talks to the people of even the remotest places, he added.
