Cauvery protests continue in basin districts
Mysore, Apr 17 (UNI) Protests, dharnas, signature campaign and road blocks by farmers and pro-Kannada organisations continued in the Cauvery basin districts against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal for the 72nd day today.
In Mandya, farmers of some villages staged a dharna at Silver Jubilee park. Pro-Kannada activists blocked the Mysore-Bangalore expressway for some time at Pandavapura, disturbing normal traffic.
Dharnas continued at Mandya, Maddur, Srirangapatana and Pandavapura in the district.
Meanwhile in Mysore, the Karnataka Rajya Savita Nadabrahma Sangeetha Kala Sangha took out a procession by playing drums, saxophone and other musical instruments and staged a dharna at K R Circle. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, urging the Union Government to intervene in the matter immediately.
The signature campaign by the Cauvery Kriya Samithi of the district, intended to collect one lakh signatures against the verdict, continued.
