Backward leaders cry foul over stay on reservation by SC
Patna, Apr 17(UNI) All India Mahatma Phule Parishad activists today staged a dharna in protest the Apex court's stay on reservation for students of other backward classes (OBCs) in premier educational institutions in the country.
Addressing the activists, president of the state unit of Phule Parishad and senior JD(U) leader Upendra Prasad Kushwaha demanded immediate withdrawal of the stay on reservation for students of OBCs and said that the Centre should evolve ways to ensure reservation in the current academic session itself.
He said if sustained protests were not launched against the stay order on reservation, it would lead to several such decisions in the future.
On the pattern of Union Public Service Commission, a Judicial Service commission should be constituted to look into the appointment of judges in various courts, he added.
Mr Kushwaha said reservation facilities for OBCS should be given in judicial services. Several political leaders claiming themselves to be protagonists for the cause of backward classes were maintaining 'stoic silence' over the issue, he maintained.
