Ranchi, Apr 17 (UNI) Union Human Resources Development Minister (HRD) Arjun Singh today remained non-committal on the Jharkhand government's demand for IIT and IIM, saying the latter needed institutions, which could generate better teachers and quality curriculum for students.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion of state-level ''School Chalen Hum'' here, Mr Singh said the Centre would assist fully the state government's proposals for developing education.

Chief Minister Madhu Koda in his address urged the Centre to set up educational institutions like IIT, IIM and medical colleges on the line of AIIMS in the state.

Mr Singh said it was more important to fix target that was achieveable and hence the demand should be utility-based.

He said the country made progress on various fields despite lack of resources.
