'Ambedkar statue installed at Pathukannu Jn'

Puducherry, Apr 17: The Puducherry administration will install a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar at the Pathukkannu junction here, Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the Legislative assemby today.

Replying to a special mention on the issue during zero hour, the Chief Minister said not only the statue of Ambedkar, but also statues of other leaders would be installed in the junction, which was beautified after the construction of a new bridge.

Mr Rangasamy made it clear that no Dalit organsiations had sought permission to install the statue there and it appeared all of a sudden.

Tabling his special mention, AIADMK member A Anbazhagan said there were reports that some dalits organisations had installed the statue of Ambedkar at the junction in the darkness of the night as the government had denied permission.

It is unfair to install the statue of a great national leader during night, Mr Anbazhagan said and urged the government to take steps for installation of a bronze statue of Ambedkar at the same place where it was installed now.
