US bureaucrats coming to learn from Lalu
New Delhi, Apr 17: After US students, it is now the turn of the US administration to learn from Railway Minister Lalu Prasad. Mr Prasad, who has told the Railway turn around story to students from top notch American universities, will now be disclosing his mantra for good management to senior US officials from different wings of the government.
A 16-Member delegation of officers from civil, foreign and defence services is coming to India on May 1 to meet the Minister and senior Railway officers to learn about the ''growth with a human face.'' The delegation is led by two professors from the National Defence University of Washington.
The Railway success story is just not about the Railways. It is rather a model for a growth suiting the socio-economic conditions of a country like India, much different from YS models which rely on downsizing and retrenchments to turn a company into a profit-making entity, believes the Minister Mr Prasad's works on the principles of higher volumes, falling unit cost and tariff, improved market share and operating margins.
The Railway Minister has earlier addressed students from Harvard, Universities of Texas and Verginia Wharton, and top Indian Institute of Management.
Recently he also gave lecture to students of the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts.
