Enough evidence to prove Adams bridge exists: BJP
Tiruchirapalli, Apr 17: The Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) today categorically refuted Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T R Baalu's statement that there was no 'Adam Bridge', also called 'Ramar Sethu'.
The bridge exists and is submerged under the sea and there is enough scientific evidence to prove it, BJP Tamil Nadu unit president L Ganesan said at a press conference here.
He said NASA had proved the existence of the bridge with satellite photographs and the survey maps issued in the country also confirmed this.
Charging that a prejudicial decision was taken by the minister to demolish the structure, he (T R Baalu) is refuting the fact, he added.
Commenting on Mr Baalu's remarks that the BJP was raking up the 'Ramar Bridge' issue to reap electoral gains in Uttar Pradesh, Mr Ganesan profusely thanked the minister for giving a 'good idea'.
So far we have not raised the issue in the Uttar Pradesh polls and since the minister has given us the suggestion, we will sincerely rake up the issue in Uttar Pradesh, he said sarcastically.
He said the BJP would participate in the demonstration by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) at Rameshwaram tomorrow to protest the attempts to demolish Ramar Bridge.
VHP International President Ashok Singhal, Hindu Munnani Convener Rama Gopalan, Janata Party President Subramanya Swamy, Sadhus and representatives of various Hindu organisations will participate in the agitation, in which he (Mr Ganesan) will also participate.
Mr Ganesan also claimed that the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has assured the senior BJP leader Murali Manohar Joshi over telephone that he would speak to the minister concerned on the Bridge issue. But, we don't know whether the Prime Minister had spoken to T R Baalu or not, he added.
