Abstract paintings exhibition begins in Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 17 (UNI) An exclusive abstract paintings exhibition, showcasing a blend of eminent and upcoming Indian contemporary artists, has begun at Galleria here.

The exhibition, ''Abstracts-Rupa Arupa'', was opened last night and would be on until April 22.

It is curated by Dr Alka Pande, Curator, Art Advisor and Consultant, Indian Habitat Centre.

The exhibition is a blend of eminent and upcoming Indian contemporary artists like Achutan Kudallur, Harsha Vardhana, Prabhakar Kolte, Krishnamachari Bose, Brinda Chaudasama, Bhawani Katoch, Ambadas, Dinesh Kumar Ram, K Jagjit Singh, Paresh Maity to name a few.

Galleria was established in 1995 by Ritu Prakash Desai with an aim to provide upcoming artists with a platform to display their works. Ritu says ''The transition of Indian art from the traditional to modern has been adventurous. From spiritual to experimental, the underpinnings of abstract thought in the 'shunya', the 'bindu' or the 'triangle', geometry has ever been the hand maiden of the artist.'' ''Each artist presented a concept of their art work to impart the message of art as a universal language to create an impact that would transcend all religions, caste, races and boundaries,'' she adds.
