2 panchayat raj officials convicted of bribery

Hyderabad, Apr 17 (UNI) The Principal Special Judge for ACB cases here has convicted and sentenced two panchayat raj officials on corruption charges.

Former Assistant Engineer (PR) and Former Deputy Executive Engineer (PR) of Parkal Mandal of Warangal District were sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year each for the offences under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, according to a release here today.

The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 1000 each and in case of default, they would suffer simple imprisonment of one month each for the offences.

Earlier, the two engineers were trapped by ACB officials in June 2000 when they accepted a bribe of Rs 2,500 (Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500) respectively from a contractor for doing an official favour.

Meanwhile, Panchayat Secretary-cum-Revenue Officer Chenchalpet of Ranga Reddy District N Bassvalingam was caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau officials today when accepted Rs 2,000 from the complainant for doing an official favour.

The amount of Rs 2,000 was recovered from the officer, according to an official release.He was arrested and will be produced before the Principal Special Judge for ACB cases here.
