Chennai, Apr 17 (UNI) World Wide Immigration and Consultancy Services (WWICS), a leading immigration and resettlement solution provider, today indicated about one lakh skilled workers could get Canadian visas in 2007.

Talking to newspersons here, WWICS Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Lt Col B S Sandhu, said ''2007 is going to be a great year for skilled workers in India and several countries of Asia-Pacific as Canadian immigration authorities have thrown open doors to over a lakh of skilled workers who are likely to find an advantageous place in the workforce of the world's leading economy.

With work permits or visas for skilled workers available on a platter, Indian workers are ready to grab this unprecedented opportunity as WWICS had received over 1,000 applications for visa processing.

Many skilled workers who are in the field of construction, hospitality and carpentry among others will be getting visas in a remarkably short span of processing ranging from few days to a month, Lt Col Sandhu said.

Immigration experts believe India had emerged as the largest provider of workforce to Canada superceding China in 2006. It is likely to see its share grow further in 2007, he said adding since November last year, visa norms for skilled workers have been relaxed and the processing expedited by the Canadian authorities.

''With around 2.5 lakh immigrants arriving in Canada every year and India contributing over 25 to 30 per cent (ahead of China) of this, Canada is likely to see Indian might increasing phenomenally over the next few years,'' he said.
