New Delhi, Apr 16 (UNI) The Supreme court today permitted Uttar Pradesh MLA Amarmani Tripathi, prime accused in the Madhumita Shukla murder case, to file his nomination from the Maharajganj constituency for the ongoing elections to the state assembly.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran directed that the accused be taken from Dehra Dun jail to Maharajganj and remain there from April 18-22.

The nomination papers for the elections can be filed between April 18-20 and scrutiny is to take place on April 21.

Tripathi, accompanied by two senior officers, would be taken under police escort and brought back to Dehra Dun jail where he is presently lodged in compliance with the Supreme Court orders.

Tripathi had earlier moved the apex court, seeking permission to file nomination for the Maharajganj constituency as he was not debarred from contesting the elections since he has not been convicted by any court in any case to date.
