People's Action demands performance audit for MCD councillors

New Delhi, Apr 16 (UNI) People's Action, that represents various RWAs, today demanded that MCD councillors present a balance sheet of their performance to their wards at specially convened Annual general meetings.

In a letter to new Leader of the House Subhash Arya, the group recommended that the audit be held at a specially called Annual General Meeting of the Ward, ideally on March 31 each year to coincide with the new financial year.

It said the audit would be a time to present before the members of the ward the developmental works undertaken by the Councillor, amount used, contracts issued, parties involved and the balance carried over from the funds received by the Councilor.

''The Annual General Meetings proposed by us in consultation with URJA and the various Resident Ward Committees, is a logical step towards improving accountability, encouraging transparency and reducing corruption in the MCD,'' People's Action President Sanjay Kaul said.

People's Action has constituted a committee to pursue the proposal with the Councillors for its early acceptance and implementation.
