Only BJP can provide good governance: Advani

Basti, Apr 16 (UNI) Training guns at the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh, former deputy Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani today asserted that only his party could deliver good governance in the state.

''The present Mulayam Singh Yadav regime has failed. He has only given poverty, corruption, unemployment and crime to the people...Uttar Pradesh is far from being Uttam Pradesh,'' Mr Advani said during an election meeting in this backward eastern Uttar Pradesh district.

He claimed the country was awaiting the BJP's rule in right earnest.

Without naming anyone, Mr Advani alleged, ''while some are using pistols to win the ongoing Uttar Pradesh assembly poll, others are applying the Muslim appeasement policy. BJP is the only party determined towards nationalism.'' Slamming Congress' star campaigner Rahul Gandhi, the BJP leader noted, ''as he has no solution for the states backwardness, he is trying to confuse people by talking about his family and its sacrifices. He is too young and does not deserve any importance.'' ''Atal Behari Vajpayee was the best PM ever. One will take ages to match him...it is painful that Congress-ruled UPA at the centre has destroyed everything. It only works for big industrialists and has constantly neglected the common man,'' he charged.

''I accept that fuel prices were hiked even in Vajpayee's tenure.

But, it did not cause much hardship among the comman man. Sadly, the UPA regime has failed to control inflation,'' he said.

He said BJP is a party of all and the election of Dr A P J Abdul Kalam as the country's president during the NDA regime exemplified the same.

Mr Advani also praised the Election Commission (EC) for successfully conducting the two phases of the seven-phase Uttar Pradesh poll conducted so far.
