Ministerial staffs strike cripples Govt dept in Puducherry
Puducherry, Apr 16 (UNI) Functioning of the government Puducherry departments here were affected as the ministerial staff began its five-day strike today to press its demands.
They were demanding, among other things, filling up of vacant posts and wage parity with Central government employees.
The striking employees staged a dharna in front of the Head Post Office here. Nearly 3,000 employees in all the four regions of the Union Territory participated in the strike.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said the government employees should ponder that they work for people and that their issues could be sorted out through proper discussions.
Replying to a question in the assembly, the Chief Minister said while the administration had fulfilled several demands of the government employees, 11 were still pending which could not be met due to sixth pay commission announcement.
