Militant plan to trigger IED through mobile phone foiled in Kashmir
Srinagar Apr 16 (UNI) Security forces today foiled a militant plan to trigger a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) through a mobile phone SIM card in south Kashmir, a police spokesman said.
He said Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation at Tral, about 35 km from here following a tip off that militants had planted an IED which could be triggered through mobile phone SIM Card.
He said after a long search of the area, security forces finally detected the IED in liquid form. The entire area was sealed and the people present there were shifted to safer places.
Later, a Bomb Diposal Squad (BDS) defused the IED without causing any damage.
Had it not been detected and defused, it would have caused much damage to life and property, a senior police officer of the district said.
