Light showers in Vidarbha

Nagpur, Apr 16 (UNI) Light showers, accompanied by strong winds were experienced in several areas of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra yesterday.

The showers were experienced in parts of Nagpur, Yavatmal, Wardha, Amravati and Chandrapur districts.

The local meteorological office said, an upper air trough was running from Jharkhand to south Tamil Nadu through Vidarbha and Telangana. Under its influence, thundershower activity had occurred at some places in the region, it said.

Nagpur Airport area recorded 0.2 millimetres rainfall during the 12 hours ending 2030 hours yesterday. The maximum temperature in Vidarbha hovered around 40 degrees centigrade yesterday, with Nagpur recording 40.2, Akola 43, Buldhana 41, Washim 40 and Wardha 39, it added.

Meanwhile, the aircraft of a private airline on way from Hyderabad to Bhopal had to land at Chandrapur in Vidarbha due to inclement weather in the region last evening.

The 4-seater aircraft, belonging to Hyderabad-based Wing Airways, was on a chartered flight when it landed in Chandrapur, official sources told UNI. The four passengers and crew on board the aircraft were safe, and had been accommodated at a hotel in Chandrapur for the night. The aircraft resumed its journey this afternoon when the weather cleared, they added.
