Former GPCC chief Gadhavi statue unveiled in Palanpur

Palanpur, Apr 16 (UNI) Statue of late Bherwdan Khetdan Gadhavi, former Union minister and president of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), was unveiled by Ahmed Patel, Political Adviser to Sonia Gandhi, Congress president.

The statue was unveiled today on his birth anniversary at his native Sabmarda village.

Addressing a large gathering, Mr Patel said ''Right way of paying tributes to Gadhavi would be to follow his ideals. His main objective was to restore the Congress to power in the state. He was a champion of the poor and downtrodden. It is time the Congress followed his ideals for uplifting the poor.'' Union Textile Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela in his brief speech lauded Gadhavi as a great social reformer. Besides GPCC president Bharat Solanki, Arjunbhai Modhwadia, leader of the opposition in state Assembly, Union Minister of state for Railways, Naranbhai Rathwa, Union Minister of State for Petroleum Dinsha Patel and several MPs and MLAs were present at the function.

The crowd was estimated to be over 15,000 drawn from all walks of life from the district.
