Eight killed in road accidents in Karnataka

Bangalore, Apr 16 (UNI) Eight persons, including three women, a teenager and a child, were killed and 15 others were injured in two separate road accidents in Karnataka today.

Police said five people were killed on the spot and nine others were injured, two of them seriously, when a lorry and Sumo van collided head on near Kadakola village near Mysore city tonight.

Police said the mishap occurred when the van carrying 14 persons, were returning to Bangalore from Nanjangud, dashed against the lorry which was proceeding to the TVS factory.

The injured had been admitted to hospitals. The victims were yet to be identified.

In the other accident reported from Basavakalyan about 60 km from Bidar, three persons were killed on the spot and six others injured, when a mango laden lorry hit against a stationary truck from behind.

Police said the lorry was proceeding to Sholapur. The dead had been identified as Basavaraj (16), Mallesh (50) and Mallikarjun (30). The injured were shifted to Bidar Government Hospital.
