JK: CRPF jawan commits suicide
Srinagar, Apr 16: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) head constable today committed suicide after injuring critically two of his colleagues in a camp in Pulwama district of South Kashmir.
A CRPF spokesman told UNI that head constable Jaswant Singh of 183 battalion shot at and critically wounded head constable Ajit Singh and Ran Singh.
He said before other CRPF personnel present in the area could overpower Jaswant, he also shot himself dead with his service weapon.
The other injured jawans were admitted to hospital, he said.
According to preliminary reports, there was some heated exchange between the three before Jaswant opened fire.
However, he said a detailed investigation has already been initated into the incident.
The incidents of security force personnel committing suicide or firing on their colleagues were on the rise in the Kashmir valley, despite introduction of 'Yoga and Art of living' to help them to come out of destress.
Four securit personnel, including a jawan of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) committed suicide in the valley during the past three weeks.
Official sources said more than 20 security personnel were killed during the past six months in similar incidents in the Kashmir valley.
At least 14 security personnel, including some officers, were also killed by their colleagues in the Valley during the same period. On March 20, an army jawan shot dead his colleague in an army camp in north Kashmir.
A soldier was recently awarded the death sentence by a court martial for killing Lt Colonel Saket Sexana at Harwan camp.
