Cop flees with police money

Port Blair, Apr 16 (UNI) Arun Anand Raj, a constable in Andaman and Nicobar police, has reportedly fled from the remote Indian islands with huge amount of money, official sources said here today.

Constable Arun was working as clerk in the Loan and Deposit section of the Andaman and Nicobar police. He was posted in Police Line from where he had reportedly collected lakhs of rupees and left the islands, Ashok Chand, Superintendent of Police in Andaman Group of islands told UNI.

He said the constable left the islands last week without informing anyone and the local police was trying to trace him.

Photographs and descriptive roll had already been sent to various states to trace the absconding cop.

''He left for Chennai by a flight on April 13th morning with a married woman and till now we could not trace them,'' the SP added.

Reports say the woman, who has two children, took her small daughter along but left her son behind.

A police team is working out the exact amount stolen from the Loan and Deposit section. ''We are working on it and will catch him soon,'' the SP added.
