Congress extends date for receiving applications for bypolls

Shimla, Apr 16 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) today extended to April 18 the date for inviting applications from candidates willing to contest Lok Sabha bypolls from the Hamirpur constituency.

The HPCC has decided to extend the date for receiving applications from interested candidates by another two days, HPCC President Viplove Thakur said in a release here.

Earlier, the deadline was set at April 16.

Ms Thakur said the candidates should send in their applications with a sum of Rs 10,000 as fee.

The bypolls to the Hamirpur constituency are being held after the Supreme Court upheld the Lok Sabha Speaker Somanth Chatterjee's decision to expel 11 MPs following their involvement in the ''cash for query scam'' in a sting operation by a private TV channel a few months back.
