New Delhi, Apr 16 (UNI) Reiterating its stand that the important and high constitutional posts in the country should be held only by the people of Indian origin, the BJP today again tried to revive the controversy over the foreign origin of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and demanded a political consensus through a national debate on the issue.

BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad, while observing that the Constitution framers had never remotely thought that one day, a person of non-Indian origin, because of matrimonial alliance or otherwise in a "family", would aspire to hold any top constitutional post in the country, said ''now that the Supreme Court had taken cognisance of this issue the BJP was hopeful that it would be resolved and what is latent in our constitutional scheme would be made patent.'' "The only hope and trust is that this issue of seminal constitutional importance affecting the current and future polity of the country, would be determined conclusively,'' he said.

While suggesting that it had also provided an occasion for all political parties to sit across and decide this question politically as well, he said the BJP had doubts if the Congress party would take a lead in this regard.
