Anil Agarwal Foundation to set up 1000 bed hospital in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Apr 16 (UNI) The Anil Agarwal Foundation (AAF), promoted by Vedant Resources Chairman Anil Agarwal, has agreed to set up a 1000 bed hospital during the first phase of the Rs 15,000 crore world class multi disciplinary Vedant University in Orissa.

Mr Agarwal, who signed the MoU with the Orissa government on July 19 last year for setting up of the University on the Puri- Konark marine drive, today accepted Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's proposal to set up a hospital.

The Vedant Resources Chairman who met the Chief Minister, later told newspersons that Mr Patnaik during the discussion, had suggested a modern hospital with focus on research and treatment on cancer, heart ailment and diabetic disease and he readily agreed to the proposal.

Mr Agarwal said he had committed a personal endowment of USD one billion dollars towards setting up of the University and the hospital project would be now a part of the University project to be taken up in the first phase.

The state government has identified nearly 8000 acre of land on the Puri-Konark marine drive for the Vedant University, expected to commence enrolling students in 2008. The state government even agreed to pass a specific legislation to provide complete autonomy to the Vedant University.
