TRS to move Supreme court on Babli project in Maharashtra
Hyderabad, Apr 14 (UNI) Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) President and former Union Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao today said his party would move the Supreme Court for halting the "illegal" work on the Babli project in Maharashtra on the Godavari river.
Dismissing the statement of AICC General Secretary in charge of Andhra Pradesh Affairs Digvijay Singh that the Maharashtra government had agreed to stop the project work, Mr Rao said Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh was known for making a commitment and not sticking to it.
He said Mr Deshmukh had announced several times that he had ordered halting of Babli project works but on the other hand, hastened them.
Mr Rao said he would not believe the promises made by the Congress and his party would fight the construction of the Babli project in the submerged area of Sriram Sagar project for which compensation was paid in the apex Court to protect the interests of the Telangana people.
He said once the Babli project was completed, Sriram Sagar project would dry up and several Telangana districts would turn into a desert.
The TRS Chief said he would neither believe Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy nor former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and utilise the privileges of his party MPs to visit the project site to know the factual position.
