Trade ties between India and US strengthened

Kolkata, Apr 14 (UNI) With the idea of bringing the two of the biggest democracies in the world together, India and US want to strengthen their trade ties, US Trade representative Susan Schwab said here.

Speaking to mediapersons here yesterday, Ms Schwab said, ''Trade ties are a very important mode of bringing countries together.

President George W Bush and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said at the bi-lateral talks last year that trade is expected to double.'' Last year the trade was 50 billion USD.

Speaking about the initiative taken to collaborate in the field of agriculture, she said that we are already doing so as Indian mangoes will hit the shelves in America in the coming months.

She further said, ''An increase in trade in the agricultural sector will benefit people of both the countries.

''We have a range of opportunities and cooperation in agriculture at various levels from the ground level, shipment and to the dining table.
