Tamil New Year Day celebrated in Pondy

Puducherry, Apr 14 (UNI) The Tamil New Year's Day was celebrated with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm here today.

Dressed in new clothes, people exchanged greetings and offered prayers at temples. Long queues could be seen before the famous Manakkula Vinayagar Temple here from early morning.

A 'cultural procession' with variety dances and traditional arts was taken out. A fireworks and live music show was being organised here to mark the occasion.

Lt Governor Mukut Mithi, Chief Minister N Rangasamy, PCC President P Shanmugham and PMK Parliamentary Party Leader Ramadass were among those who greeted the people.
