Sangita Jindal appointed Board of Trustees of World Monuments Fund

Bangalore, Apr 14 (UNI) Jindal South West Foundation (JSWF) Chairperson Sangita Jindal has been nominated to the Board of Trustees of World Monuments Fund (WMF), a New York based non-profit organisation.

Established in 1965, WMF was dedicated to the preservation of historic art and architecture worldwide through fieldwork, advocacy, grantmaking, education and training. It had worked with local communities and partners to stem the loss of more than 420 irreplaceable sites in 80 countries, according to a release here.

The WMF has a worldwide roster of 200 projects that were receiving grants through the World Monuments Watch and other institutional programs. Its projects were often intended to build up the limited capacities and resources of local partners or to leverage additional support from Governmental agencies.

Commenting on her appointment, Ms Sangita said that '' I hope to use this opportunity to draw the world focus on the numerous Indian monuments that were in dilapidated state and need to be restored and preserved. This stint would also provide me with an international exposure as to how developed countries preserve and promote their monuments.'' The other Trustees of the WMF Board include Prince Amyn Aga Khan, H PeterStern, the Chairman, President and Co-founder of Storm King Art Centre, America's leading outdoor sculpture park and museum, located in New York's Hudson Valley and Ashton Hawkins, ex-Executive Vice President and Counsel to the Trustee, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others.

The JSWF has collaborated with WMF since 2005 on a project to strengthen the conservation capacity for Hampi, a World Heritage site.

Steering the Corporate social responsibilities activities for the JSW group, Sangeeta Jindal was involved with various social development projects in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
