Rioting in Ghaziabad District Jail during search operation

Ghaziabad, Apr 14 (UNI) Prison staff in District Jail here cane-charged inmates, who resorted to rioting following 'misbehaviour' by officials during a search operation.

The 'lathi-charge' was necessitated as the inmates threw stones, set blankets on fire and damaged jail property after alleged misbehaviour by prison authorities during a search operation in the complex.

Some prison personnel were also injured in the incident.

Fire tenders, senior police and district officials, besides DIG (Prisons) P K Mishra had reached the site.

No prisoner/undertrial, however, escaped the jail.

The prison with a capacity for 600 to 650 inmates 'housed' over 2,800 of them.
