WB: Rat killing poison kills family members

Malda, Apr 14: Two members of a family were killed and five others taken ill after they accidentally consumed poison in hot brew at Omerpur village under Gajole police station in the district today.

Police said while father Nasirudding Shaikh(55) and his eight-year-old daugher Tashleem Khatun died at home, five other members of the family were rushed to Malda government hospital in critical conditoin. Of them, the condition of two was critical.

Khatun was asked to make morning tea and she did it. But she poured rat killing poison, which was kept in the kitchen thinking the dark coloured substance as dust tea, a preliminary investigation revealed.

Police said Khatun was first to die followed by her father.
