preparations complete on eve of 1414 Bengali New Year

Agartala, Apr 14 (UNI) The people of Tripura are busy giving final touches to the preparations on the eve of Bengali New Year 1414.

Tripura Governor Dinesh Nandan Sahaya and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar have greeted the people of Tripura on the eve of the Bengali New Year and Biju festival.

They also expressed hope that 'Nababarsha' would bring peace, happiness and prosperity to the people of the state.

Various cultural programmes have been organised in the capital city and other parts of the state by different organisations to celebrate the day tomorrow.

A 'Barsho Biday'(Bidding farewell to the last year) festival, with the cooperation of Eastern Zone Sanskriti Kendra and the Tripura Government's Information, Cultural and Tourism(ICAT) Department, would also organise a cultural programme tonight at old Agartala's Chaturdash Devta Mandir, about eight kms from the city.

The function would be inaugurated by ICAT Minister Anil Sarkar.

Gajan Utsav would be held to accord a warm welcome to the New Year.

In many parts of the state, Charak Puja and Mela were being organised today, the last day of the 1413 (30 th Chaitra), where a large number of people have started pouring in to witness the Puja.

Sweet shop owners, meat and fish sellers were busy making huge stocks for tomorrow. There was already a huge rush in those shops.

Tripuri communities and the Chakma tribes in the state were also organising Garia festival and the Biju festival. Both the tribals and the non-tribals of the state observe the Bengali New Year with great enthusiasm.
