Panchayats involved in development activities, says CM

Shimla, Apr 14 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbahdra Singh today said gram panchayats are being involved in the village level development activities besides being given more powers to implement these.

Addressing a public meeting at Samoli in Rohru Sub-Division of Shimla district, he said besides speedy development of the rural areas, it would also ensure optimum utilisation of public money.

Mr Singh said the gram panchayats also should exercise their authority by maintaining transparency and neutrality and ensure that only deserving familes were given benefits under several welfare schemes.

He laid the foundation stone of the new building of Samoli Government Senior Secondary School, to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.17 crore.

Earlier, he also laid the foundation stone of panchayat samiti bhavan and police station, to be constructed at a cost of Rs 60 lakh each, at Rohru.
