New year celebrated in TN

Chennai, Apr 14 (UNI) People of Tamil Nadu today ushered in the new Tamil year 'Sarvajith' with traditional gaiety and religious fervour.

Dressed in their best attire, people thronged temples with their family members and offered prayers. Abhishekams and special prayers were performed at famous Kapaleeswarar, Parthasarathy and Vadapalani temples in the city for the well-being of the public.

People also exchanged greetings and sweets with one another and shared their happiness.

Several new Tamil films were released today much to the joy of movie buffs. While the young thronged cinema theatres to get a glimpse of their matinee idols on the screen, others remained glued to the idiot box to enjoy special new year programmes beamed on various satellite TV channels.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa and TNCC President K Krishnasamy were among those who greeted people on the occasion.
