Shillong, Apr 14 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang has said the state government wwill give special focus to the health sector particularty in the rural areas.
The government was making all out efforts to improve various aspects of health care and ensure that it reaches the rural areas, Mr Lapang said while laying the foundation stone of Kynjoin Umran Health Sub-Centre in Ri-Bhoi district yesterday.
He said besides the government's efforts, people's cooperation was needed to achieve the goal of ''health for all''.
It was very important to spread awareness about health issues and how people could contribute towards achieving the goal, the Chief Minister said.
Expressing concern over the spread of malaria in different parts of the state he urged the health workers to be more serious in their work and doctors to visit the sub-centres frequently.
State Health and Family Welfare Minister Deborah C Marak, who also spoke on the occasion, said only increasing the number of health sub-centres was not adequate to provide quality health care.
Ms Marak also asked the health workers, doctors and nurses to make themselves available whenever people need their help.
