Inter-state car lifting racket busted

Aizawl, Apr 14 (UNI) In a joint operation by Mizoram, Asom and Haryana police, a linchpin was arrested in connection with an inter-state car lifting nexus in Silchar of South Asom, a bordering town of Mizoram.

Police sources here today said acting on a tip-off, Haryana police and its Asom and Mizoram counterparts raided the house of Sekul Ahmed Choudhury (35), who had been operating in north India and northeast.

''Mr Choudhury is a resident of Udarbond of Silchar and confessed that he had bases in Mizoram, Asom and Manipur since 1998. His Mizo wife runs his illegal businesses in Mizoram,'' police added.

Police said the gang used to steal cars in northern India and sell them in Northeast, particularly in the south Asom districts, Manipur and Mizoram adding that a Tata truck had been recovered from the backyard of his house.
