Kolkata, Apr 14 (UNI) Setting a condition before the agitating workers, the Hindustan Motors management today asked them to call off the strike in the Uttarpara plant to pave way for withdrawal of suspension orders on ten employees.

In a letter to Labour Minister Mrinal Banerjee, the HM management said calling off the indefinite strike should be the precondition to any move for withdrawal of the suspension orders, as demanded by the strikers, official sources said.

The company communique was in response to the feedback of the minister yesterday after a bipartite meeting with the leaders of five unions in the factory.

Offering cooperation in restoring normalcy in the factory, which was put under suspension of work on April 12, the union reprsentatives had promised during the meeting that they would not obstruct movement of goods provided the management revoked suspension orders on at least ten of the 40 ''victimised'' workers.

Representatives of all the five unions, including those from 'Sangrami Sramik Karmachari Union', which was spearheading an agitation were present at the meeting.
