DSP injured in clash as mob agitates over boy's killing

Ranchi, Apr 14 (UNI) At least 25 people, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP), were injured when an enraged mob tried to set afire a tank factory from where the body of a boy was recovered this morning.

Police said 14-year-old Prashant of Shamlong-Belbagan locality, was abducted on February 13 when he was on his way for his tuition.

His kidnapper, identified as Ganpat, was arrested from Bihar's Munger district, police added.

Jharkhand High Court had ordered Director General of Police J B Mahapatra to constitute a committee for the investigation of the case.

Acting on the information obtained from Ganpat, police recovered Prashant's body from the tank factory located at the Namkom area in the state capital.

Senior Superintendent of Police M S Bhatia told UNI that agitated over the killing of Prashant, a mob vandalised the factory and tried to set it afire.

Policemen present at the spot resisted and used batons to control the crowd. About 25 people were apprehended from the spot, Mr Bhatia said adding Hatia DSP Prabhat Kumar and officer in-charge of Chutia and Namkom received minor injuries in clash.

Extra forces had been deployed in the area and the situation was under control.
