Indore, Apr 14 (UNI) BJP leaders have criticised garlanding of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar's statue by Madhya Pradesh Congress President Subhash Yadav and Union Minister of State Kantilal Bhuria while wearing footwear.

In a statement here today, state BJP President Narendra Singh Tomar and PWD Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya demanded apology from the Congress for insulting a great man and the country.

The BJP leaders said the Congress sympathy towards 'dalits' and poor was merely an eyewash and it exploited their emotions only for the purpose of getting votes.

Mr Yadav was not available for comment. State Congress Spokesperson K K Mishra denied the allegations saying the BJP was levelling baseless allegations against for drawing political mileage, as it was frustrated over the failure of 'mahakumbh' and wanted to divert people's attention.

The district Congress today released pamphlets containing excerpts from BJP leader and former Union Minister Arun Shourie's book 'Worshipping False Gods' containing objectionable remarks about Dr Ambedkar.

District Congress President Pramod Tandon said this exposed the dual character of the BJP.

While Mr Shourie's book contained objectionable remarks against Dr Ambedkar, the BJP was organising Samrasta Sammelan on Ambedkar Jayanti, he added.
