'Co-ordination between NGOs, people needed to make RTI effective'
Ahmedabad, April 14 (UNI) Gujarat State Human Rights Commission President R N Das today said there needs to be proper co-ordination between NGOs and people to make Right to Information (RTI) Act more effective.
He was speaking at a seminar on information rights organised by 'Rule of Law Society' here.
Mr Das said ''NGOs should put in more efforts to make RTI Act popular. People, on the other hand, should also be more specific in formulating questions while using RTI.'' The RTI Act should be more simplified, he said.
Former Justice A K Trivedi, who also spoke on the occasion, lauded Mr Das for taking quick and bold decisions in punishing officials, who failed to comply with RTI. ''Mr Das has made RTI the talk of the town in Gujarat,'' Mr Trivedi said.
Mr Trivedi said information technology should be used in making RTI popular. In a traditional judiciary system, a single information would not be available for 10 years to the person, now with the help of IT, people can make the most of RTI at the click of a mouse, he said.
