Tiruchirapalli, Apr 14 (UNI) A special police team recovered the highly decomposed body of a DMK functionary, who was reported missing for the past one week, from river Cauvery at Ottakkudi village on the city outskirts, today.

Police said S Kandan (42), a fish vendor, was allegedly kidnapped by a gang on April 8. On a complaint from his wife, police had launched a search.

Later, on the orders from City Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal, a special team was formed to look into the complaint.

The police, on a tip-off, arrested six people this afternoon and based on their confession, the body was recovered from the riverbed.

A post-mortem was conducted on the spot.

An Enmity between Kandan and one Kamal, a leather shop owner, over financial transaction had led to the murder, police said.

Kandan was kidnapped by a gang, led by Kamal, and was strangled to death before the body was thrown into the river.

The police arrested six people and a search is on to nab Kamal and two other persons.
