American Centre to facilitate links between US and NE universitie

Aizawl, Apr 14 (UNI) The United States has taken up initiatives to set up academic linkages between recognised Indian universities and its American counterparts, Director of American Centre in Kolkata, Douglas Kelly said here today.

Talking to mediapersons Mr Kelly said they have planned to encourage students from North East to study in America besides offering facilities for research studies.

''Now we are trying to convince the universities of NE states to link up with US institutions of higher learning and American Centre is ready to facilitate the process in the North East,'' Mr Kelly said.

The officials have interacted with the students and faculty of Mizoram University and Asom University in Silchar.

Mr Kelly said about 80,000 students from India and 75,000 from China go to the US for higher studies every year.
