Aiyar to visit proposed Kolodyne River hydel project site
Aizawl, Apr 14 (UNI) Union Minister for Department of the North Eastern Region (DoNER) Mani Shankar Aiyar will visit Mizoram to see the potential of the Kolodyne River in Myanmar before building the hydel project.
At the just concluded North East Business Summit, Mizoram Chief Secretary Haukhum Hauzel had stressed on the need of starting the proposed 530 MW Kolodyne hydel project.
Informing that the Central Water Commission was working out the details of the project report, Mr Hauzel underlined that apart from generating power, the project also aims to start multi-modal transport system to enable sea route connection between Mizoram and Myanmar.
Mr Hauzel has said that the proposed sea route would reach upto Kaletwa in Myanmar.
Initially, the project was aimed at connecting Mizoram to the Kaletwa port with a 62 kilometre road corridor.
The Centre has also instructed Rail India Technical&Engineering Services Limited to carry out a survey on the possibility of constructing waterways to connect Mizoram.
The chief secretary has proposed that instead of road connection, waterways be constructed to connect Mizoram with Myanmer.
