59 killed in fake encounters in Jammu since 1990: Hurriyat

Jammu, Apr 14 (UNI) Jammu Kashmir People's Movement, a constituent of All Party Hurriyat Conference, today alleged that about 59 persons had been killed in fake encounters in Jammu region since 1990 and claimed few instances of this nature coming to light in Kashmir was just the tip of the iceberg.

Addressing media today, chairman Ghulam Ahmed Mir alleged hundreds of youth had disappeared from border districts of Poonch and Rajouri since 1990, of whom about fifty nine had been killed in fake encounters by security forces after dubbing them as foreign militants.

''All of them were picked up from their houses and killed after branding them as foreigner mercenaries. Recent exposure of fake encounters in Kashmir valley that witnessed exhumation of bodies was just a tip of the iceberg. The fate of thousands of people arrested by the security agencies over the years is still unknown,'' he added.
