40 vision centres for MP

Bhopal, Apr 14 (UNI) Forty vision centres would be established to provide eye-treatment facilities in the remote villages of Madhya Pradesh by the end of 2007.

Health Commissioner Rajesh Rajora said a target has been set to establish a vision centre per 50,000 of population.

''Besides establishing 40 vision centres in the state by the year end, awareness regarding eye-donation would be brought among people,'' said Mr Rajora.

He said the main objective of 'Blindness Control Programme' was to bring down the blindness rate in the state. The government's aim was that no one remained blind and efforts were being made in this direction.

In 2004, good work has been done in the field of cataract and lens-transplantation.

He said eye-testing of schoolchildren has been more than the target.

Mr Rajora added that 57 per cent women underwent cataract operation in 2006-07.
