3 held for trying to free ex-MLA from jail

Varanasi, Apr 14 (UNI) Three youth were arrested from the district jail in neighbouring Bhadohi district early today for trying to free former MLA Udaybhan Singh alias Doctor who is undergoing a life term in a triple murder case here.

District Magistrate (Bhadohi) R S Dubey today said Vineet Singh, Amit Kumar Singh and Upendra Singh made their way into the district jail in Gyanpur after intimidating the guards posted on the jail entrance last night.

Reacting promptly, the guards sounded an alarm and subsequently an exhaustive check was conducted. Search operations were, however, impeded owing to power failure inside the premises.

Police managed to nab the three youth who later admitted they had entered the jail to free the former MLA.

A probe has been ordered into the entire episode as such an act cannot be committed without the collusion of jail administration, the DM said.

The ex-MLA was shifted to Bhadohi from Pratapgarh jail for hearing in another criminal case 10 days ago. The case is slated to be heard in the court of District Judge in Bhadohi on April 18.
