Bangladesh's former Law Minister arrested

Dhaka, Apr 13 (UNI) Former law minister of Bangladesh, Barrister Maudud Ahmed was arrested today from his residence as the military-backed caretaker government continued its crusade against corrupt politicians and businessmen.

Family sources of the minister said a convoy of military raided Mr Ahmed's Gulshan residence last night and picked him up this morning.

Earlier, the interim government led by Chief Advisor Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed assumed power on January 12 under the state of emergency, rounded up scores of former ministers and members of parliament on charges of corruption and abuse of power.

Dr Ahmed who addressed the nation last evening said the current administration will show zero tolerance to corrupts.

He also announced that the country will have parliamentary elections before the end of next year.
